The word "Angle" is very general and familiar for beginner. But most of them didn't know the right position from every angles in rule of photography. The Angle types in photography , they are:

1. Eye Level

This is the netral camera angle or we can just call it the Normal Angle. The height of camera must be parallel with the targeted subject/object. If we shoot  people, the body part that we can use to be benchmark is on their head, more spesific at eyes area.

2. The Bird's-Eye View

The photo which is taken from this angle will show the angle of view from the height. It's mean that we shoot from the high place, for example is the city view ( high building, sreet activity, and crowd of vehicles)

3. High Angle

This angle have similar characteristic like The Bird's-Eye View which is shoot the object from the high place. But this angle is not so high like The Bird's-Eye View. If we use it to shoot people, the height of camera have to higher that their head. So the head position will looks more rounded big and the body looks smaller until the feet like tapered.

4. Low Angle

This angle is the opposite from High angle. The angle of view is lower and if we use to shoot people, the height of camera postition must lower that their head postion. The photo result that using this angle also the opposite from the High Level which is bigger in feet rea and smaller from the body until head.

5. Frog Eye Angle

This angle have similar Characteristic with low Angle. The angle view is lower but the level is more extreme which is the camera almost touching the ground. So, when you use this angle sometimes you must prone while shooting the subject/object.

6. Canted Angle

We can call it  Oblique Angle, tilt the angle view to get very unique photo.

In photography, 85mm lens is recognized as special lens for portrait photo of face. Why it's 85mm? what about the others? 24mm or 200mm? Based on many expert portrait photographer which is have many experiences to shoot thousands human face when using lens 85mm, the face of model will looks so proportional and very interesting.
The wider lens will make the face looks more convex, distortion nose, and the chick bones looks more chubby. Tele lens will make the face is so flat, thinner than it should be.
To get you more understand, look at the changes of the face shape illustration bellow! There is a model face that was shot by different lenses which is have each focal length, they are 20mm, 2mm, 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm and 200mm .

For additional notes, 50mm lens actually is good enough for portrait lens. But 85mm lens give more advantages of background isolation which is more good , because 85mm lens give you more fine depth of field (DOF)  better than when you using 50 mm lens, so the bokeh is more good. The wide lens like 35 mm or wider is also used for portrait photo when  the background is matter! its not for tight portrait which is full frame of face, just look at this sample pic bellow :

Of course the focal length that we talk about is in full frame censor. When you use APSC camera or moreover the four-third micro, the focal length will follow the crop factor law.

If you love to shoot landscape and nature ( hunting sunset and sunrise- the gold light on the top of mountain and beach), we don't stuck only on lucky factor. The good preparation, accuracy, and conscientious become determinant factor.
To get photo with the best natural light, the most ideal is if we can make visualization of the light characteristic  in hunting location before we go. Using some smartphone apps Bellow, we can know the sun position early in the current location that we choose ( date & time). So we can minimize the lucky factor and get more perfect accuracy. It will wasting your time if after you climbing mountain to catch the sunset but evidently the sun is hiding on the other higher mountain!
So this is 4 smartphone apps for android and ios that might be helpful for you who loves Landscape :

1. The Photographers Ephemeris (TPE)

TPE is the one of the most popular for photography lovers. We can know how the sunlight or even moonlight Will fall in specific position (example : borobudur temple) on the specific time and date.

You just need to input the location, date, time and the App will show you where is the sun position,  height  and where is the light direction . This app is not free, but for this cool apps the price is reliable.
So just download The Photographer Ephemeris for Android and IOS.

2. Pashadelic

Pashadelic is almost similar with TPE, but there is feature to see the sun position and light direction on location and the time that we pick, even in more simple version and it's not more complete that TPE. The advantages of Pashadelic is we don't have to pay to use this app. But we have to join Pashadelic member, because they rely the community to sharing each other about spot location to get landscape spot reference which is cool in their area.

3. Sun Seeker

Sun Seeker is the most favorite apps because it's easy to use and pretty sophisticated, its not only for landscape photographer but also for they who want to know the sun position of current location with high accuracy. The most interesting of sun seeker is the augmented reality 3D feature, just run the app in the spot where you stand and  main smartphone camera will show you where is the sun and the path that will be passed the sun all day, complete with illustration lines.
If TPE is good to predict the sun position in large landscape scope, instead Sun seeker is the best to determine the position with more detail.

4. SkySafari

If you love to shoot star constellation, Galaxy (astrophotography) using standard lens or telescope lens, the SkySafari is the best to help you finding the object that you search for.
This App give us the access on 199 thousands of star position and 220 galaxy also all planets, comet and moon in tour solar system through data from NASA. When using smartphone GPS, this app will show you where is the position of stars,  galaxy ,and the other sky objects, also to identify them with easy, quick, complete with the support data.

If you just want to shoot star trail and the night sky, this app is very good for you. Don't forget to find the clear sky and still free from pollution to get maximum result.

Willie Chik, The Computer Programmer who is also a photographer made a web application that can help us to find a perfect lens  that suitable with our own taste. How? He displays dozens sample photos and we can choose 20 photos that we like. From 20 photos that you will choose, application algorithm will find which the best lens for you.

BUT! Because WhatTheLens Application has been made a few weeks ago, the lens database is still limited. So far he just support the mount of the lens for Canon (EF) and Nikon (F). But actually it's not problem, we can just adjust the lens type that recommended by application for akin which is suitable with our camera mount.

I tried choose 20 photos of people (NSFW) on the display, and the application choose Canon EF 70-200 mm f/2 IS USM. The perfect recommendation for me. If i think it too expensive, i will just to find the other lens which is similar which is lower price . Need to remember! The focal length that we use us for full frame censor, so when you use Crop Camera, of course you must pay attention with crop factor.
You can try open the website WhatTheLens Web Application.
