New Digital Camera - 8 Great Recomendations Setting

         Did you just bought new camera (DSLR/Mirrorless) for the first time? It will be great , grab the camera and  do test the camera directly. But then you see too many buttons and command dial that available in camera,then you confuse how to set your new camera properly. 
        In this article, i will explain and give some recomendations about the basic settings of camera(DSLR/Mirrorless) that will usefull for you as beginner.

1. Memory Card
    After you opened the box, insert memory card inside your camera.Format first your memory card to make that card working properly with file management that determined by each camera.

     Enter the main menu of camera, then find format command. In Nikon D5500 for example, you can enter Menu > Setup Menu > Format. Meanwhile in Fuji X-E2 and press Menu OK >  Slide down in Setup menu 3 > Format.


2. Determine Size and Photo Quality
       Because your camera now is quite shopisticated, you should use it properly to take photos with very good quality. Use JPEG format with the highest quality (extra Fine or Highets quality) with the large file size.

      If you interest with RAW format that save more information about photo, you can also use it. Make sure you are understand about different between photo file with JPEG format & Raw. When using RAW format, make sure your computer have compatible software and spesification to read and convert from RAW to standard format.

3. ISO



       ISO setting in camera determine how much  lights which is needed by camera to produce photo.
      The High ISO like 6400 is useful when you take pictures in the low light place but it have risk to produce photo within noise. Meanwhile the low ISO like 100 or 200  will produce photo without noise purely and with good quality but make photo become blurred susceptible when you take a picture inside room. For beginning step, the best ISO setting that you can choose is Auto.

4. White Balance
   White balance setting in camera infulence the accuration of colours of photo. Such as explain in this article about white balance, skin or clothes colours will look so weird when camera using unfit white balance.

      But don’t worry, now many digital cameras is very shopisticated, it's so rare  you will gett miss colours. Use auto white balance as the start setting while making experiments with others white balance setting.

5. Metering
        Metering setting determine how the camera measures the lights that reflected by object , then how they can produce shutter speed and lens aperture combination properly that suitable with the result of  measurement before. 


       In the begining of usage of your new DSLR /mirrorless camera, use the mode of Metering Evaluate ( Canon) or Matrix (Nikon). Suitable with  adexperiences with your camera, start using the other metering modes that suitable  with any photoshoot conditions and objects that you will shoot: center weighted, spot, and etc.

6. Focus
      Camera lens that you use is automaticaly searching focus using outofocus system in camera or manually with rotating the focus ring in lens wirh your finger.
In this fase, you should use camera Autofocus system (AF) and use the singleAF mode ( one shoot AF or single area AF). In this mode, the lens will lock the focus area on one point that you’ve determined when you press shutter button in an half . Use the focus  center point and start training and training , so that your hand will frisky to change focus point.



      The others choices of AF mode is like AI-Servo or AF-C , for example you can use them when you will take a picture the running child.

7. Drive Mode
      Drive mode in camera determine speed of camera in exposure. Single Shoot mode is suitable in any photoshoot conditions and daily object photos. Set camera in this mode at first usage . In this mode , everytimes we full pressing the shutter button, camera will shoot the pictures.


      The other modes that available is Continuous Mode, useful when you shoot the moving object. Camera will shoot photos continuously after we full pressing the shutter button. Also there are Delay/ remote mode that can be used in other conditions.

8. Exposure Mode
     There are three modes that easy for beginner : Auto mode, Scene and Program Mode. All of them, camera determine all or some part of your camera setting  that can focus when taking the pictures.


    Unfornately when your camera is turning on that modes, many paramater that turn off automatically by camera. In first day, it’s okay you use one of that  modes. But after that, start using the Priority aperture or Priority Shutter. And let’s do some experiment using manual modes.
