How To Make Wonderful Bokeh in Photograph
The different between our eyes and camera lens is eyes have depth of field (DOF) almost unlimited , Meanwhile lens is limited, it’s bring consequence that focus area in lens not as wide as like our eyes. The photographers in long ago have decided to use this weakness become weapon. So this is the little story about Bokeh.
Word “Bokeh”was made in Japanese language that mean’s “become blurry”, so bokeh photo is photo characteristic that feature a main object that have very sharp focus while the background ( nor front) that very blurred, or in English called selective focused. On the beautiful sample photo above, the main object is model’s face that very sharp, but the background which is lamps is looks blurry. Then this blurry called Bokeh. How to make bokeh photo like that. Let’s figure out :
1. Choose the manual or aperture Priority – Read more about camera operation modes here.
2. Set the aperture as wide as possible.
Look at term "f/x" in your lens, more small x , more wide the aperture and more small the focus area.
3. Think about the length factor, it’s the length in front and back of object..
If you stand 1 meter in front of your friend ( front length = 1 meter) and you place the focus dos on her face. Your friend stand around 10 meter from nearest ( back length = 10 meters), so this background will looks so blurred . The point is more near the front length (length between lens and the object) more far the back length ( length between the object and background) more blurry your background.
4. Keep trying and if you have more money , buy lens with the aperture as wide as possible.
note: If you really like bokeh, lens non-zoom with the aperture super wide is the fastest way to get bokeh ( for example : 85mm f1.8 & 50mm f/1.8, both of them is the super fast lens and cheapest and of course it will make wonderful bokeh.
